Meet Cate

Cate is a former Olympic athlete who is now a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and an ASHA certified member who holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence. She has been practicing as a Speech Therapist for over 5 years, with her past 4 years at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, CA. She graduated top of her class with distinction from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Masters of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Cate has a broad spectrum of experience within the field and holds additional certifications in NeuroMuscular Electrical Stimulation, Fiberoptic Endoscoptic Evaluation of Swallow and in Myofascial Release (technique used for head and neck cancer patients) and more. She has extensive training and experience in therapy targeting cognition, language, dysphagia, AAC modalities, articulation, phonology, voice and fluency, among many others.

She has worked extensively in healthcare with adults and children and has been in concierge Speech Therapy for the past 3 years. She specializes in rehabilitating cognitive, receptive + expressive language (aphasia), swallowing (dysphagia) evaluations and treatment, and acquired brain injury in the Hospital setting. Her passion is working one-on-one with client’s who have Parkinson’s or rehabilitating from a stroke in their home. This allows more opportunity to educate families and help client’s achieve their speech and language goals more effectively.

More Fun Facts…

Prior to her Speech Therapy career, Cate was on the 2012 Olympic Team for Team U.S.A. and competed internationally for 20 years. Born in Toronto, Canada, Cate moved to California in 2000, grew up in Huntington Beach and has since traveled the globe where she loves to experience other cultures and enjoy new food. Years of performing at an Olympic level and coaching fellow Olympic Athletes has allowed Cate to help clients set and achieve their ultimate Speech Therapy goals. Cate enjoys snowboarding in Tahoe with her family, riding her e-bike, and beach walks. She loves living in Newport Beach with her husband, baby girl, and Golden Retriever.
